MARYLEBONE HEALTH CENTRE
PATIENT PARTNERSHIP GROUP
Minutes of virtual meeting 9.6.25
1. Present: JM, JG, IA, SL, JmcG, YT, MB, SF & JC
Apologies: MF,CB, AG, DoD, BD, BH
2. Minutes of last meeting: Review of Minutes of 28th April agreed
3. Matters Arising
Sustainability – bamboo cups will be used for patients instead of plastic when current supply is used up
4. Practice Update
4.1 Staffing – no staff changes
CHWEE (Community Health & Wellbeing Worker) role as discussed at the last meeting has not progressed and JC will remind them to start to look at the needs of MHC patients.
Action JC to feedback when work starts
4.2 MHC cancer care strategy
JC explained at MHC we are looking at 3 areas
Clinical outcomes – success of clinical referrals, early diagnosis and treatments. No instances where cancer for our patients is picked up from A & E presentations
GPs have area retraining to use a new system, C the Signs, which uses excellent cancer guidance and pathways, latest referral forms and information and refers to current active services.
More proactive care – increasing cancer awareness by targeting high risk groups and creating reminder systems where patients do not return for FIT tests (which can help diagnose bowel cancer)
Dr Lisa Drew is the practice Cancer Care Champion. However, she is not a specialist in cancer treatments and patients should be encouraged to see any GP if they have concerns.
PPG were pleased to hear of this work and SL suggested creating a document for the website and newsletter to show the results of cancer care provision and audits at MHC
Action: JC to action
4.3 Telephone Assist.
JC described a new system where patients holding on the line to speak to reception have the opportunity to leave a voice PATCH (not a voice message) which is then responded to as usual by PATCHs. PPG said they had concerns that patients may think this is answer phone/same day service and may have continued holding if they knew this was the case. JC said MHC had a concern about patients leaving high risk messages. As MHC have a quick response time with calls it does seem a bit unnecessary and perhaps taking the risk is not worth the benefit.
4.4 Daily Mail
Recently had calls from patients because the Daily Mail on-line ranked how patients feel about the service given by reception. Patients were pleased MHC had done so well in the ranking so they called to congratulate us – which is lovely but the results are the NHSE results we have discussed before and not new so nil action for MHC/PPG.
4.5 IT enhancements
There are some concerns regarding IT systems and data breaches. NHSE have launched new systems to improve data security and development enhancements to the NHS app. The enhancements do cause updates to our PCs which sometimes cause issues accessing systems on site. But overall all pleased to hear NHS taking steps to prevent cyber-attacks and data breaches.
5. Primary Care Network Stakeholders
5.1 Health Watch
Nil to update BH not at meeting so no update
5.2 HCL
Meeting information provided from HCL and JM and MF planning to attend
5.3 NWL Residents Forum
JG described a meeting she attended for the NWL Residents Forum where there was discussion about local NHS provision. They discussed pathways to care and hospital care transferring to the community. It was an interesting meeting and good to know what NHS plans are being made for our residents.
6. Draft Event programme
6.1 PPG awareness week from 2nd June.
JC placed posters advertising the PPG meetings and that it was PPG Awareness Week. 1 person took details and said she would consider attending.
6.2 IT Sessions
Drop-in IT sessions were still available and staff have been super flexible with timings. Unfortunately, 2 patients gave details but did not attend and 1 person popped in but their IT issues was resolved before she attended.

6.3 Patient Education Event
Events on the 12th May and 12th June were cancelled due to no attenders/no interest. Newsletters given out, posters on website and on main door of surgery and in waiting room. General emails sent out and targeted patients we know like the GPs hosting as well as patients attending with concerns such as the topic discussed. Time allocated to the events have now been opened up for patient appointments.
Dr Goodstone’s session on the 20th May covering Men’s Health was well attended and received excellent feedback. Plans are for a late afternoon in the summer/school holidays for younger women and older girls to talk about sexual health and periods etc. MHC plan to send invites directly to the patients and not parents where possible.

PPG invited to attend Gill’s tea and a chat event and discussion about who and why patients were invited (PPG, recently bereaved etc)
Planned
July – Younger Women’s Health: Periods, Sexual Health, HPV, Cervical Screening – Dr Lisa Drew
July – Men’s Health – Dr Kevin Patel
September – Vaccinations and keeping well in Winter – Nurse Team led by Nurse Kelly Hunt
October – Mental Wellbeing – Dr Emma Coore
7. AOB
7.1 MHC Care Navigator
SF described recent interaction with a fantastic role where care was coordinated for a high need patient which gave much needed support to the patient and family. JC described the Care Navigator role at MHC. Maria (MHC Care Navigator) works closely with District Nurses, GPs, social care and discharge teams to make sure high risk/vulnerable patients have coordinated community care and family support. PPG thought it would be a great idea if this was described in the next Newsletter perhaps a ‘day in the life of’ type article.
Action JC
7.2 Newsletters
PPG suggested August /early Sept a good date for the next Newsletter. YT suggested a ‘preventive life cycle’ article about all the preventative care/treatments/tests patients can have for awareness starting with childhood imms. PPG agreed excellent idea.
Action JC
